One of the possible ways to enter the Order of Friars Minor – Capuchins is to enrol in our 'Trainee Educational Centre' located in our monastery in Varaždin. After completing primary school, or during secondary school, youths come to us while studying at a state secondary school and live in our monastery so they can become familiar with the Capuchin way of life and work. Complete education and training of candidates out our Centre is directed towards disclosing and recognising their own calling for the priesthood and/or the way of life of the Religious in our Order and Province.

After completing secondary school, if you decide to join the priesthood and/or the Religious in our Order you enter the novitiate (i.e. a year to question your own calling) for the duration of one calendar year. During the novitiate each novice can gain insight into whether this is the sort of life he wishes, or rather, brothers Religious will, during that year, gain insight into whether the novice is appropriate for our Order and Province. Following the novitiate, the novice takes his religious vows for a life of poverty, purity and obedience.

After completing the novitiate when the novice gains insight into the history of the Order and the Church as well as spirituality and other vital components of the Religious and Franciscan-Capuchin calling the novice takes his temporary religious vows. They who wish to become priests in the Capuchin order then enrol in five years of study of theology at one of the available theological academies.

Brothers who during their novitiate have decided not to enter the priesthood can become Religious men in our Order – Capuchin, honourable brothers – who are not priests but who in this way can devote themselves and their lives to God and their brethren people. They too are Capuchins just like their brothers who decide to follow their calling to the priesthood and further education; they too take vows to the Order just like their brothers who decide to become priests in our Order. These brothers are not involved in the activities of a priest but have a different, equally important role and service in the community as their brother priests.
The second, more common way to enter our Order is for those who are interested in our Order to come to us after completing secondary school, or even later in life, and enrol at an academy of theology. Sometimes, someone becomes attracted to our Order after already enrolling and/or completing some faculty degree and/are already employed.
As with the first case, the second way of entering the Order is through novitiate and then philosophical-theological studies.
Anyone who wishes to find out more about us, our Order or our Province and wishes to live the Gospel according to the example of St. Francis by joining the Order of Capuchins may contact any of the addresses above or contact the provincialate directly.
